Azerbaijanis accused of fighting with Taliban against coalition forces released from court room

17:25 / 13.10.2009 Court of Grave Crimes ended the hearing on the case of 13 Azerbaijanis accused of participating in the battles against the US troops and its allies together with the illegal armed groups in Pakistan and Afghanistan, APA reports. Afgan Hajiyev presided over the hearing. The court sentenced Shakir Khanbutov to a year and 6 months, Araz Kangarli to 2 years and 6 months, Telman Isayev to 2 years and 6 months, Tural Sultanov to 2 years, Jahangir Bagirov, Eyyub Zeynalov, Seymur Ahadov, Emil Mirzayev, Jeyhun Sadigov, Shahin Mukhtarov, Kabir Valibayov, Rovshan Pashayev and Vigar Khalilov to 6 months in jail. Except Khalilov, the persons sentenced to 6 months in jail were dismissed from court room as the term of their sentence expired. Khalilov’s six-month sentence will expire on October 29 and he will be released that day.
The defendants faced charges under article 12.1 (citizens of the Azerbaijan Republic and persons constantly living on the Azerbaijan Republic without the citizenship, who have committed action (action or inaction) out of border of the Azerbaijan Republic, shall be instituted to the criminal liability under the present Code, if this action is recognized as a crime in the Azerbaijan Republic and in the state on the territory of which it was committed, and if these persons were not condemned in the foreign state), 279.1 (creation of armed formations or groups, which are not provided by the legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic, and also participation in their creation and activity, supplying them by weapon, ammunition, explosives, military engineering or military equipment), 318.1 (crossing of protected frontier of the Azerbaijan Republic without established documents or outside of check point of frontier), 318.2 (the act provided by article 318.1 of the present Code, committed on preliminary arrangement by group of persons or organized group either with application of violence or with threat of its application), 228.1 (illegal purchase, transfer, selling, storage, transportation or carrying of fire-arms, accessories to it, supplies (except for the smooth-bore hunting weapon and ammunition to it), explosives) of the Criminal Code.
