17:11 / 12.10.2009 7000-km Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline will be put on exploration this year, Turkmen ambassador to Azerbaijan Annamammad Mammadov said at a press conference. He said the pipeline would transport 40 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to China per year. The ambassador said newly-constructed part of Turkmen-Iran pipeline with capacity of 14 billion cubic meters p/y would be put on operation this year. He said domestic policy of Turkmenistan was directed toward improving of welfare of the people. He said electric power, gas, water, salt and 120 liters of petrol were free in Turkmenistan and bread, public transport, as well as domestic flights and railway communication had symbolic prices. Hundreds of modern health and education centers, sport complexes are constructed in the country. The medical service and education are free for the country’s citizens. The ambassador informed the journalists about the Turkmen president Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov’s address to the UN General Assembly 64th session. The president talked about the priorities of his country’s foreign policy and made different initiatives and proposals. He proposed to hold an international conference under UN aegis on the problems of demilitarization in Central Asia and the Caspian region in 2010.
