UN headquarters closed due to snowstorm in New York

The snowstorm in New York prompted the United Nations to close its headquarters complex on Wednesday, a UN spokesman announced, APA reports.

14:12 / 11.02.2010 Martin Nesirky, the spokesman for the UN secretary-general, said in an emailed message to the press here: "Due to inclement weather, the United Nations Headquarters complex in New York will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010."
"The secretary-general’s appointments for the day will be rescheduled; as will any press conferences/briefings which had been planned," he said.
Earlier this week, the New York City announced that all public schools in the city will be closed on Wednesday due to the impending snowstorm.
Earlier on Wednesday, heavy snow and strong winds lashed eastern coast of the United States and snow is expected to taper off and end on Wednesday night. Total snowfall from this storm will average 10 to 15 inches across the area, weather forecast said.
