Commission set up to appeal to U.S. Congress and President on behalf of Azerbaijani parliament

The aid allocated to Nagorno Karabakh by the US has been discussed in today’s sitting of the Azerbaijani parliament, APA reports.

13:49 / 15.12.2009 The parliamentarians expressed their concern over it. MP Ali Huseynov characterized it as political corruption. According to him, taking such a step without coordinating with Azerbaijan is hypocrisy and political dissimulation.

MP Rovshan Rzayev expressed his concern that no aid was allocated to the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh.

Igbal Agazadeh said it was not the first case, Russia, France and US expressed such position from time to time.
“Karabakh problem should be included into the agenda of the parliament, a special meeting should be held. Madrid principles damage Azerbaijan’s sovereignty,” he said.

Zahid Oruj said it was good that the authorities and opposition expressed unique position on the issue. The parliamentarian said allocation of the aid to Nagorno Karabakh was a wrong step.
“$200 million have been allocated within 17 years. Have these allocations been spent for the purpose? The US repeats what Russia did to Armenia. I offer to set up a group and prepare a letter of protest to the US,” he said.

Aynur Guliyeva also evaluated it as a support to the separatism and urged to protest it in written form.

Panah Huseyn said Musavat group also protested this action taken by the United States. “The political parties are preparing such a letter of protest and we support this protest”.

Speaker Ogtay Asadov said Nagorno Karabakh was not mentioned in the budget bill proposed by the US president and Senate as well. “Unfortunately the Congress made such step. It is their job to allocate resources for Armenia, but it is unfair step to assist Nagorno Karabakh bypassing Azerbaijan. Armenian Diaspora sent a letter of gratitude to the US Congress for their assistance to the two Armenian states. They also demanded to give a guarantee that 22 million dollars allocated for Azerbaijan will not be spent to war expenses. There are pro-Armenian people there. I think we have to establish a commission, which will address separately US Congress and President. We have to issue our addrees on behalf of our parliament”.

Then lawmakers established the commission, which involved members of the Azerbaijani parliament Musa Guliyev, Ali Huseynov, Sattar Mehbaliyev, Nasib Nasibli, Yevda Abramov, Rovshan Rzayev, Elman Mammadov and Gular Ahmadova. They will issue and address in the second half of the day.
