European Union plans to launch discussions to ease visa regime with Azerbaijan

12:30 / 02.02.2010 According to APA, A. Cheshkovski marked, during his interview, development of “Eastern partnership” projects as much more successful than other EU initiatives.

“Eastern partnership aims at close cooperation and integration of six ex-Soviet countries with EU. All the structures involved in the process implement different projects. This kind of integration should be implemented through political cooperation, integration of the economies of Eastern European countries with EU and application of EU standards in their economy”, Polish Foreign Ministry’s official said.

“Today, Ukraine is close to signing of associative agreement with EU. This may be signed next year. Presidential elections will not put back this agreement to be fulfilled, as both candidates have pledged to pursue European integration. Such talks are under way with Moldova Republic as well.”

Ceshkovski noted that talks have been launched on possible associative agreement with Caucasus countries. “Now, we are waiting the mandates of talks to be adopted. Nobody ever thought about signing associative agreement with Azerbaijan, before the “Eastern partnership” launched. Now, this chance turned out to cooperation. This partnership calls Europe to a close cooperation and integration with its eastern neighbors”, he noted.

He said that EU is currently having negotiations with Georgian government to ease visa regime with this country and planning to have such kind of talks with Azerbaijan in the future too. “EU has intensive dialogues with Ukraine over cancellation of visa regime with this country. We’ll also begin such negotiations with Moldova Republic this year as well”, Polish Foreign Ministry’s official added.
