Azerbaijani pilgrims bus shot in Iraq: one dead and two wounded

Bus of Azerbaijani pilgrims was shot in Samarra, Iraq on its way to Kerbala.

17:20 / 29.01.2010 Unknown people attacked the bus and opened fire on January 28, resident of Mashtaga village of Baku Haji Zakir Guliyev told APA. 14-year old girl, resident of Mashtaga village Fatima Ahmadova was killed and two pilgrims, imam of the Mashtaga mosque Haji Seyidaga and one woman were wounded. Ahmadova’s parents were also among the pilgrims. Haji Zakir said Fatima Ahmadova would be buried in Iraq on Friday and a group of Azerbaijani pilgrims had already been sent to Iran.

Representative of the travel agency “Kerbela yollari”, which organized pilgrimages, in Iraq told APA that the incident took place three days ago. “Azerbaijani pilgrims were together with the Iranians when they faced with the terrorist attack. Both Iranian and Azerbaijani pilgrims were wounded during the incident. Azerbaijani girl – Fatima Ahmadov was wounded on head and died next day. Two wounded people were taken to hospital. They are in a stable condition now and they will return home in the near future with the support of Iraqi government”.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Iraq and Jordan Elman Arasli told APA that the incident would be investigated. He said that he had not information about the event. “We will investigate the issue. I will contact with the Iraqi ambassador to Jordan and ask him to give details about the incident”.
