Azerbaijani and Turkish education officials meet

15:27 / 21.01.2010 Turkish delegation headed by Minister of Education Nemet Cubukcu, who is on a visit to Baku at the invitation of her Azerbaijani counterpart Misir Mardanov, held a meeting at the Azerbaijan Ministry of Education on January 21. The sides discussed the issues of development of bilateral relations, updating protocols, extension of training opportunities and student exchanges between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Minister of Education of Azerbaijan Misir Mardanov expressed confidence that the visit of Turkish officials to Azerbaijan would promote cooperation in education.

Mardanov said 517 Azerbaijani students were studying at the Turkish universities within the government-funded programs. 209 students attend the Bachelor’s, 96 – Master’s, 117 – Doctor’s and 95 – professional programs on medicine. In 2009-2010, 75 students enrolled for Turkish universities and most of them are attending the professional medicine programs. The minister said most of foreign students in Azerbaijan were Turkish. 4073 Turkish students are studying now at 21 universities of Azerbaijan.

Turkish Minister Nemet Cubukcu said she was honored by the visit to friendly Azerbaijan. “We always shared Azerbaijan’s happiness and sorrow throughout the history. Azerbaijan and Turkey are one nation and tow countries. Close cooperation between the countries promoted good relations in the education field as well. We will work to strengthen these relations further”.
