DTP officials and members of parliament arrested in Turkey

10:28 / 15.12.2009 Members of the Turkey’s Democratic Community Party (DTP) banned by the Constitutional Court will boycott the parliament, DTP co-chair Ahmet Turk told journalists, APA reports. They lost a chance to establish faction at the parliament while abolishing of their status of lawmaker. Expressing opinion about the establishment of new faction joined by ODEP’s Ufuk Uras, Turk said DTP members wouldn’t take part in the parliament’s activity in a protest against its decision.

Ahmet Turk said the Constitutional Court didn’t pass legal decision, it pass political decision. “Leila Zana is not a founder of this party. She was the party’s member, but was dismissed because of prosecutor’s suit against her. She didn’t participate in our meetings. But the Constitutional Court based on the Leila Zana’s actions when decided to ban the party”.
According to the decision of Turkish Constitutional Court, chairman of the local organization of banned Democratic Community Party (DTP) in Igdir province of Turkey Ahmet Barbaros and five members of the parliament were arrested, APA reports. They were arrested for unauthorized meeting on December 9 and chanting slogans supported PKK terrorist group. They are also accused in involving the Kurdish people in unrests and creating disturbance in the city. The security forces searched the DTP office in Igdir last night and found many documents about the activity of PKK terrorist organization, banned literature and unlicensed gun. 81 people were arrested for unrests organized by DTP in Igdir on December 9.
