American military expert: Carrying of US and NATO cargos through South Caucasus-Caspian sea corridor may cause some tension in the region

Carrying of US and NATO cargos to Afghanistan through South Caucasus-Caspian sea corridor may cause some tension in the region, professor of the U.S. National Defense University, military expert Roger Kangas said in Baku, APA reports.

15:19 / 11.12.2009 The expert considers that carrying of cargos to Afghanistan and other countries may cause tension of other countries.
“We are holding discussions with Georgia, Kazakhstan and other countries. Maybe any other country will oppose it. but I think agreement will be reached in the bilateral discussions,” he said.

Kangas said the cargos would be carried basing on the contracts between Azerbaijani government and the US.

The expert considers that carrying of cargos through this corridor may not cause conflicts in the region.

The expert also spoke about the issue on increasing the number of civilians in the Armed Forces. Kangas said a number of countries carry out reforms in the structure of the Armed Forces and civilians replace servicemen in some posts.
“There is such a practice in our country. I have worked on reforms in the Military Academy for ten years. Civilians replace servicemen in some posts in the US and it has very positive influence,” he said.
