Janez Lenarcic: “We want Azerbaijani authorities to take our recommendations into consideration”
“Azerbaijan is a country on the way of development of its democratic institutions. The government is passing the way of strengthening of democratic institutions.
14:15 / 02.12.2009 We are closely working with the Azerbaijani authorities and assisting them to lead the process in a right direction”, said Janez Lenarcic, Director of the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) in a briefing in Athens on Wednesday, APA correspondent reports.
Answering the questions about the situation in this field, Lenarcic said rate of democratization in Azerbaijan could be higher. “I recommend you to learn our report about the results of last year’s presidential elections. We noted some shortcomings during the voting process and made some recommendations in that report. We want the Azerbaijani authorities to take these recommendations into consideration. I sent a letter to Baku recently informing the Azerbaijani authorities about our willingness to work with them concerning these recommendations. It is very suitable time to improve the situation in that field. We are hopeful that next elections will be better.
