Fourth meeting of SPECA held in Bishkek

16:37 / 18.11.2009 The fourth meeting of the Management Board of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) launched by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was held in Bishkek, APA reports. Economic Development Minister represented Azerbaijan in capacity of national coordinator and Deputy Foreign Minister in capacity of assistant national coordinator. The delegation led by Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev, assistant national coordinator for Azerbaijan, Deputy Foreign Minister, participated in the meeting.

The activity of the program for 2007-2009 was assessed and the priorities for 2010-2011 were determined. The participants also exchanged views on the impact of the global economic crisis on SPECA countries. To increase the efficiency of SPECA’s activity, Azerbaijan offered to analyze the work of the Working Groups functioning within the programme, determine priorities and gave concrete recommendations.

Azerbaijan’s initiative on Aid for Trade Road Map for SPECA to reduce the impact of the global economic crisis on the programme participants was appreciated and confirmed in the Management Board. The programme’s Management Board asked Azerbaijani side to continue efforts for the realization of the initiative.
