22:16 / 14.11.2009 Before that the two presidents signed two memorandums of energy cooperation.
“The strategic energy partnership between Azerbaijan and the EU started in 2006 when we signed a memorandum of cooperation and the documents we signed today will strengthen the development of these relations,” said Aliyev.
“The energy security issues have occupied the first place in all political discussions in the recent years. Azerbaijan gives its contribution to the solution of those issues,” he added.
He says the bilateral documents Bulgaria and Azerbaijan signed will encourage the gas cooperation and in the future other countries will join the partnership.
He notes Azerbaijan’s large gas reserves – the minimum amount proven runs to some 2 trillion cubic meters.
“We, of course, want to export the gas through good, reliable and diversified routes,” said Aliyev.
Touching on the bilateral relations, Ilham Aliyev said Bulgaria plays an important role in the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
“Our bilateral ties are developing extremely successfully and Bulgaria is a very important partner to us,” he said.
“We have always felt Bulgaria’s support in Azerbaijan’s efforts to integrate into the Euro-Atlantic structures,” he added.
