"Travellers" to Mars selected in Russia

11:14 / 12.05.2010 The last two participants in a 520-day imitation of space travel to Mars were selected in Russia on Tuesday. The experimental "flight" will start with Russian medical and biological studies in early June.
The European Space Agency selected 31-year-old Frenchman Romen Charle and 26-year-old Italian Diego Urbina for participation in the "Mars 500" project. They joined three Russians and one Chinese already chosen for the mission.
The final composition of the crew will be annnounced by the end of May.
The actual flight to Mars is presently planned in 2030, according to the Russian space agency schedule. The major challenge of the Martian expedition is, beside the duration of the flight, that it will be impossible to control the flight from Earth, since it takes some 20 minutes for a radio signal to cover the distance one-way.
