Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov: Critical situation is past in the zone affected by natural disaster

The dam reinforcement will be completed within two or three days, destroyed dam will be fully restored

10:37 / 11.05.2010 Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov released the recent information about the zone affected by natural disaster, APA reports.

Minister said the situation was normalizing.
“The space of the dam reinforcement has already been shortened. The rise of the water is not observed, even there is fall by 50-60cm, 1m in some places. The critical situation is past. The people evacuated from the nine villages feel normal. We are reinforcing the dam in the territory. The dam will be fully restored within two or three days. Analysis of the dangerous areas and coastal fortification will continue simultaneously, as it can rain again,” he said.

Kamaladdin Heydarov noted that the damage caused by the natural disaster was being assessed.
“This process requires some time. Therefore, it is impossible to say a concrete figure. The situation will be entirely analyzed after the damage is assessed. At the same time we are clearing the canals. In some places the canals have been destroyed, overgrown with grass. I think there will be no danger after they are cleared. Such danger can not happen again,” he said.

Speaking about the factors that caused the flood, Minister said it happens in most places of the world.
“This is a natural disaster and there is no need to seek other causes. It rained continuously in the past few days, the snow on the mountains melted, the water level of the rivers increased. This is observed in most places of the world. We are taking regular measures to prevent the danger, but it is impossible to preplan the amount of the precipitation. Long-lasting processes must go after all this is analyzed. If you remember, it had not snowed in Baku until three years ago. But it has snowed in Baku recently. It is connected with the climate changes. Taking into account the conditions, we must make our specialists and equipment in compliance with the situation,” he said.
