Oil Academy’s professor: “Farda Gadirov directed gun to me, pulled the trigger twice, but it didn’t fire”

On Tuesday, the Court of Grave Crimes has continued hearing on the criminal case related to the mass shooting at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy last April. Aggrieved persons have given testimony in the process presided over by Ramella Allahverdiyeva.

15:51 / 04.05.2010 Student of the Academy Elshan Mammadov said he was at the canteen during the incident. “I heard shooting when I was at canteen. I went up to sixth floor and told the professor about that. A few minutes later we saw a gunman”. Mammadov said his fellow student Yusif Bandaliyev resisted the gunman, but Farda Gadirov killed him. “I was wounded and but I could escape”.

Professor of the Academy Vafa Mahmoudova said she heard gunfire at about 9.00 on April 30. “I came on the hall and saw a gunman. He killed a student and a professor Faig and then he directed the gun to me, pulled the trigger twice but it didn’t fire. He was a left-hander because he held a gun in left hand. We heard noise and therefore he escaped”.

Mahmoudova said she saw Farda Gadirov’s tape on TV and confirmed that he was a person who intended to kill her.

The judge lets defendants to speak, but they rejected demanding TV reporters’ participation.

Defendant Javidan Amirov said he addressed President Ilham Aliyev, the parliament and Georgian ambassador to Azerbaijan informing them that he was not guilty. “I ask you to invite the representatives of the persons I addressed”.

Judge Ramell Allahverdiyeva said that the trial was open and no one was banned to participate.

Public prosecutor said the defendants demanded TV reporters because they intended to delay the trial, but lawyers considered it as a law-governed.

On April 30, 2009, an unknown man entered the building of the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy, where the Oil and Gas Field and Oil Engineering schools located at Dilara Aliyeva Street, 227, and shot at everybody he met from the first floor up to the six floor. 12 were killed, 13 wounded in the aftermath of the shooting. Responsible employees of special task police unit, district police and prosecutor’s offices immediately arrived at the site. Seeing he will be rendered harmless by the police the criminal committed suicide. He was identified as the Georgian citizen Gadirov Farda Asad, 29.

The persons involved in the criminal case –Amirov Javidan Farman is charged with the articles 214.2.1 (terrorism), 28, 120.2.1 (preparation to deliberate murder), 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.5, 120.2.7, 120.2.10, 120.2.11, 120.2.12 (deliberate murder), 29 (attempt to deliberate murder), 206.4 (organized smuggling), 228.2.2, 228.3 (illegal storage, saving and carrying of arms and ammunitions), 234.1 (illegal storage and carrying of narcotic drugs), Aliyev Nadir Shirkhan and Suleymanov Najaf Novruz with articles 214.2.1, 214.2.3, 120.2.1, 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.5, 120.2.7, 120.2.10, 120.2.11, 120.2.12, 228.2.2, 228.3, 206.4, 228.3, Gabulov Ariz Zahid with articles 206.3 and 228.2.1 of the Criminal Code.

The criminal case launched against Farda Gadirov was dropped because of his suicide.

The Georgian citizen of Armenian national Gumashian Mardun Grigorievich was identified as an originator of the terrorist attack at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. Azerbaijani law-enforcement agencies are taking necessary measures to bring Mardun Gumashian, who originated mass shooting at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy last April, to justice. Gumashian was declared wanted by Interpol.

The General Prosecutor’s Office completed investigation on March 29 and sent the materials to the Court of Grave Crimes.
