Russian Patriarch: “There are significant progresses in the process of solution to Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict”

A tripartite meeting between All Russian and Moscow Patriarch Cyril, Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheik-al-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh and All Armenian Catholicos Karekin II was started in Baku.

Patriarch Cyril said the meeting was devoted to the peaceful solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem. He noted that there were significant progresses in the process of solution to Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. “The presidents have a great role in this process. The Russian president plays a role of mediator. Despite some difficulties, prospects satisfied both sides were created. We are not politicians, we are religious leaders, but we can support the politicians and to influence on the peoples to solve the conflict peacefully”.

Sheikh-al-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh thanked the Russian Orthodox Church for its mediatory initiative for peaceful solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem. “They helped us in time that the Karabakh problem didn’t get a religious background. We are hopeful for fair and peaceful solution of the problem”.

Catholicos Karekin II said in his speech: “We are servants of God and therefore we support peace. As the religious leaders, we have to make efforts to achieve peace in the region”.

Karekin II thanked the Russian Orthodox Church for its mediatory mission and said: “The war is cruelty and we need in peace”.
