PACE President Mevlut Chavushglu: “We are sure that forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan will be democratic and transparent”

12:12 / 16.04.2010 PACE President Mevlut Chavushglu visited Ganja, APA’s west bureau reports. He was accompanied by the head of Azerbaijani Delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov, MPs Aydin Abbasov and Rovshen Rzayev. Within the framework of the visit Chavushoglu first met with the Head of Ganja City Executive Power Eldar Azizov. After the meeting he gave interview to journalists: “I know that Ganja is the second big city of Azerbaijan after Baku. I have heard about the history and beauty of Ganja many times. That is why I wanted to come here”.

Answering the questions of journalists PACE president said that PACE subcommittee on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno Karabakh would help the solution to the conflict. He noted that he would visit Armenia in May.

Chavushoglu spoke about forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan: “Azerbaijan has overcome long distance. Though there is significant development in different spheres, Azerbaijan knows that it hasn’t reached the desired standard and we also know it. But that is not the point. Important thing is that, Azerbaijan needs help in meeting these standards. We have seen that elections were transparent in Azerbaijan. And we believe that forthcoming elections will also be democratic and transparent. We have expressed our opinion on this to President Ilham Aliyev, as well as to everyone”.

And then PACE president visited Shah Abbas Mosque, Javad Khan Tomb and Nizami mausoleum by the accompaniment of Eldar Azizov and got acquainted with other historical monuments of Ganja.

Note that, Chavushoglu will visit Goygol region after the Ganja visit. Within the framework of the visit he will meet with Goygol Region Executive Power Arif Seyidov and pay visit to Goygol Wine-mill, German church.
