Court considers appeal of disinformer about terrorist attack against Rail Rzayev

The Baku Appeal Court considered the appeal of former staff member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Taxes Mirseyfaddin Mamadov, who misinformed the law-enforcement bodies about the terrorist attack against Major-General Rail Rzayev.

17:30 / 13.04.2010 According to APA, the court rejected his appeal and kept the first instance court’s decision in force.

Mirseyfaddin Mammadov was sentenced by the Court of Grave Crimes to 7 years of imprisonment.

According to indictment, he gave wrong information about the terrorist plans in Azerbaijan, including assassination plans against the high-ranking officials. He told the General Prosecutor’s Office that as if the Air Force and Air Defense Commander Rail Rzayev was killed as a result of terrorist attack. After the interrogation of more than 100 people, the investigators identified Mammadov as a disinformer. Mammadov also slandered his neighbors accusing them in storage of narcotic drugs, which caused arrest of more than ten innocent people. Polkice didn’t find narcotics in his neighbors’ houses.

Mirseyfaddin Mammadov was arrested on October 16, 2009 by the Ministry of National Security. He was charged with articles 216 (misinformation about the terrorist attack) and 292 (causing illegal detention and arrest) of the Criminal Code.
