Azerbaijan Press Council announces 7 newspapers and one magazine more “racketeer”

Azerbaijan Press Council’s commission on prevention of “racketeering journalism” chaired by Vugar Rahimzadeh held its regular meeting on Tuesday.

17:13 / 13.04.2010 Rahimzadeh said the commission has received more than 20 complaints since the beginning of the year and informed about the materials collected in the wake of those complaints, the Press Council sources told APA. 7 newspapers and one magazine were declared as “racketeering publications” and one newspaper got a serious notice. The commission will continue investigation. The Press Council’s secretariat was urged to prepare report to the Council’s Board.

A part of complaints received by the Press Council is reviewed by the commission on prevention of “racketeering journalism” according to the recommendations by the secretariat and complaints commission. The commission makes its recommendations and expresses its opinions on those issues and finally the documents are reviewed by the Press Council’s Board, which makes final decisions.
