Hearing on mass killing in Azerbaijan State Oil Academy scheduled for April 21

The preliminary hearing was held on the criminal case related to the mass killing at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.

12:08 / 13.04.2010 The judge Ramella Allahverdiyeva presided over the hearing. The defendants filed petitions, wanted the criminal case to be sent back to the initial investigation and inspector Fakhraddin Panahov to be called to the court for testimony.

Defendant Nadir Aliyev said he was unaware of the crime.
“I have been performing namaz for ten years, I was unaware of this crime. I signed these documents under pressure,” he said.

Javidan Amirov said Farda Gadirov was his cousin.
“A day after the crime I was interrogated in the Ministry of National Security. My house was searched, but I was released as they did not find any evidence. The next day the representatives of the Interior Ministry’s Department to Combat Organized Crimes detained me and took to the department, there I gave testimony under pressure,” he said.

Defendant Najaf Suleymanov said he had faced charges under one article within nine months, later he faced charges under 23 articles.

Arif Gabulov said he faced pressures during the investigation.

After the advisement, the court rejected the petitions.

The hearing has been scheduled for April 21.

An unknown man entered the building, where the faculties “Oil gas field” and “Oil engineering” of Azerbaijan Oil Academy located in Dilara Aliyeva Street, 227, and shot at everybody he met from the first floor up to the six floor. 12 were killed, 13 wounded in the aftermath of the shooting. Responsible employees of special task police unit, district police and prosecutor’s offices immediately arrived at the site. Seeing he will be rendered harmless by the police the criminal committed suicide. He was identified as the Georgian citizen Gadirov Farda Asad, 29.

Defendants Amirov Javidan Farman is charged with the articles 214.2.1 (terrorism), 28, 120.2.1 (preparation to deliberate murder), 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.5, 120.2.7, 120.2.10, 120.2.11, 120.2.12 (deliberate murder), 29 (attempt to deliberate murder), 206.4 (organized smuggling), 228.2.2, 228.3 (illegal storage, saving and carrying of arms and ammunitions), 234.1 (illegal storage and carrying of narcotic drugs), Aliyev Nadir Shirkhan and Suleymanov Najaf Novruz with articles 214.2.1, 214.2.3, 120.2.1, 120.2.3, 120.2.4, 120.2.5, 120.2.7, 120.2.10, 120.2.11, 120.2.12, 228.2.2, 228.3, 206.4, 228.3, Gabulov Ariz Zahid with articles 206.3 and 228.2.1 of the Criminal Code.

The criminal case launched against Farda Gadirov was dropped because of his suicide.

The General Prosecutor’s Office finished the criminal investigation of the cases of above-mentioned persons and sent the materials to the Court of Grave Crimes on March 29, 2010.
