EU Commissioner denies Armenian newspapers

“How good conditions the internally displaced persons live, it can not replace returning home for them”, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said at a briefing in Baku after the meeting with IDPs APA reports.

18:29 / 09.04.2010 Fule said all internally displaced persons should return to their homeland. “We come here not to discuss politics, but to meet with the people. We are discussing relations and future prospects”.

Fule said he met with the President of Azerbaijan today and discussed the Nagorno Karabakh problem with him. “I saw the conditions where internally displaced persons live. We discussed the EU assistance which will be provided after the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict in the returning process. The government of Azerbaijan takes much care of the problems of internally displaced persons”.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Ali Hasanov thanked Fule that he met with IDPs. “This is very important issue for us”.

Answering the questions of journalists Fule reacted to the Armenian newspapers’ reports on behalf of Fule that “Azerbaijan’s military rhetoric doesn’t assist the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict”. “This is not true”, said Fule. “I didn’t say so. I said only that the conflict should be solved peacefully. Now the presidents are conducting negotiations mediating by the Minsk Group. I believe that the solution of the problem is not far from”.
