U.S. Assistant Secretary of State: The United States hopes for quick progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement

“The United States hopes for quick progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement,” U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Philip Gordon told APA’s Washington correspondent.

12:15 / 16.12.2009 “We are actively engaged on Nagorno-Karabakh issue and we are actively engaged in the OSCE Minsk Group. We think this is mutually important and I do hope that we can make progress very soon on it. It is important to us", Gordon said.
Assistant Secretary stressed that the United States stand ready to help in any way that it can.
"There are some basic understandings of the basic principles that would be necessary to resolve this conflict, and I believe all of the parties would benefit if there were a resolution of the conflict," he said

On December 15th, Mr. Gordon participated in Senate Foreign Relations Committee Hearing on "The Lisbon Treaty: Implications for Future Relations between the European Union and the United States”.

Assistant secretary stressed that South Caucasus, Middle East, Iran’s nuclear program and other regional problems - are one of the directions of US-EU cooperation.
