Head of Presidential Administration: The opposition has no more social support

“The views that there is interference in the local elections are groundless,” head of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev said, APA reports.

16:38 / 23.11.2009 Taking a stance on the opposition representatives’ views on the interference in the election process and refusing to participate in the elections, Ramiz Mehdiyev said equal conditions had been created for all parties to collect and confirm signatures.
“The condition created for YAP have also been created for other parties. The main problem is that the political parties calling themselves opposition have no more social support,” he said.

Ramiz Mehdiyev said the opposition parties tried to increase the number of their representatives by various deceptive means.
“It was found out that in some election constituencies the names of persons had been included into the lists without informing them. They not only included the names into the lists, but also presented some persons as representatives of the party. When those persons presented their documents, they were asked what party they represented. Some said they were not members of any party, the others named various parties. So, they did not confirm the lists presented by those parties. They want to increase their number by such deceptive means. According to the law, a citizen can nominate himself for the municipality from the place where he lives. For example, a man living in Baku can not nominate himself in Ganja. When the lists were checked, it was found out that those persons did not live there. Of course, such persons have not been registered. This is the essence of the issue,” he said.

“Our aim is to hold democratic elections in Azerbaijan,” Ramiz Mehdiyev said.
