Elmar Mammadyarov receives delegation of Turkish parliament

01:47 / 30.10.2009 Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the delegation led by chairman of the Turkish parliament’s commission of foreign affairs Murat Mercan, the Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA. Murat Mercan noted Azerbaijan’s importance for Turkey and the significance of the interparliamentary relations of the two countries. Touching on Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Murat Mercan mentioned the statements of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and said Turkey-Armenia borders can not be reopened, the protocols will not be ratified in the Turkish parliament unless the conflict is solved. Murat Mercan also said that there is a very simple way of solution to the conflict, Armenia must implement the resolutions and decisions passed by the UN, OSCE and PACE.

Elmar Mammadyarov gave information about the present state of the negotiations on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He noted that Turkey closed the borders with Armenia as a sign of protest against the occupation of the Azerbaijani territories and ethnic cleansing policy against the Azerbaijanis by Armenia. According to the minister, the results of the conflict still continue. Elmar Mammadyarov said the basis of the problem in the region is the occupation of the Azerbaijani lands, all the communications can be restored, long-lasting peace and security ensured in the region only after Armenia withdraws its troops from the occupied Azerbaijani territories. Touching on the flag crisis in Bursa, Foreign Minister said Azerbaijani people regretted it and appreciated the punishment of the offenders. They also discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest.
