Elkhan Polukhov: “If Khojaly tragedy is recognized in Azerbaijan as genocide, necessary work will be done for recognition of it in the international arena as well”

Azerbaijani embassies will organize different events and demonstrate photos, videotapes and other materials for commemoration of Khojaly genocide in the world.

15:59 / 16.02.2010 “This work has been done for long years and such events become more effective year by year because materials about the tragedy are increasing and improving every year”, said Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elkhan Polukhov, APA reports.

The spokesman said worldwide events on commemoration of the Khojaly genocide would be organized beginning from this weekend. He said Azerbaijani diplomats and representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations would join these events.

Polukhov said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was preparing materials to prevent lack of information about the Khojaly genocide and Azerbaijani embassies were raising issue before the different foreign centers concerning it.

Answering the question “what measures are taken for recognition of Khojaly tragedy in the world as genocide”, Polukhov said: “These issues are solved on the basis of recommendations made by the government officials, parliament and the country’s leadership. If the tragedy is recognized in Azerbaijan as genocide and legally evaluated, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take actions within this framework”.
