Azerbaijani Parliament approves government’s report

Azerbaijani Parliament finished discussions on the report of the Cabinet of Ministers for 2009.

21:42 / 17.03.2010 Speaker of the parliament Ogtay Asadov made a keynote speech at the meeting. Speaker said great improvement was observed in Azerbaijan’s economy, share of the private sector in economy, foreign investments increased. He said due to the successful economic policy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, the world financial crisis did not affect Azerbaijan. According to Ogtay Asadov, the report presented by the Cabinet to the parliament every year is prepared perfectly.

Presenting the government’s report in the parliament Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh said 2009 was successful for Azerbaijan’s economy. The International Monetary Fund and World Bank appreciated the economic growth in Azerbaijan. Artur Rasizadeh noted that GDP in Azerbaijan rose by 9.3% and made up AZN 34 billion, average monthly salary increased by 6.8% and made up AZN 298, average monthly pension made up AZN 104. 654,000 people received targeted social aid. The poverty level reduced by 2% and reached 11%, approximately 75,000 jobs were created in the republic.

Prime Minister added that state budget revenues were AZN 10.3 billion, expenditures AZN 10.6 billion last year. Concessional loans were given to 2100 entrepreneurs, for the first time 50 million tones of oil were produced, industrial production increased by 8.6%. Over AZN 500 million was invested from the state budget in the development of the military industrial complex.
There were discussions after the presentation of report. MP Raul Rajabli considered acceptable the report on activity of the government in 2009 at the discussion. He noted that Azerbaijan is the first country ensuring disabled with cars and flats: “Azerbaijan achieved great successes in the social protection of nation”.

MP Fazil Mustafa criticized the activity of government. He spoke about US State Department’s report on Azerbaijan and improvidence of Azerbaijan with fresh agriculture products: “The number of Azerbaijani drug addict students has been recorded 200 000 persons in 2008 and 300 000 in 2009. If it will continue then they will write it 400 000 for the next year. Azerbaijan government must answer it absolutely. It doesn’t mean that there isn’t drug addict in Azerbaijan”. Mustafa also said that state officials had passed through drug monitoring in Georgia and such practice must be applied in Azerbaijan too.

MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev also criticized the activity of the government. He asked the reason of absence of power ministries at the meeting of government and noted that sexual aggressions had increased in the army: “I can’t understand what Defence Ministry does”. Hasanguliyev also noted that the reason of not appointing new ambassador to Azerbaijan shows the negative attitude of US towards us. He offered to eliminate tutorship in the country.

MP Panah Huseyn said that there isn’t any sentence connected with Karabakh in 450-page report. He thinks that all numbers in the report have been overstated: “Government must resign”.

Note that, after discussions report on 2009 has been passed at the parliament.
