Turkish FM: Israel oversteps limits

11:50 / 13.01.2010 Turkish Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s reaction to the Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan’s critiques against Israel. The Turkish ministry called the Israeli ministry’s statement an “overstep limits”, APA reports quoting Heberturk. “Turkey’s regional foreign policy aims peace, security and stability of all people and dialogue instead of non-adequate use of force and isolation. Turkish and Jewish people have historic relations before establishing the Israeli state and our present relations with Israel enables us to make some critiques and warnings. Turkish people always supported the Jews throughout the history. The history of their co-existence bases on the honor and tolerance. We reject claims that “Turkey is last country given lessons of moral to Israel”. This phrase distorts realities and is injustice against the history”.

Turkish Foreign Ministry also denies ideas that there is anti-Semitism in the country. “Our honorable Prime Minister stated for many times that anti-Semitism is a crime against humanity and it proves groundlessness of those claims”.

Israeli Foreign Minister expressed protest against the Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan’s anti-Israel statement at his joint press conference with Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri. Israel said the Turks were last people given lessons of moral to Israel. “Israel should defend its citizens from Hezbollah, Hamas terrorists. Regarding the Turks, they are last people given lessons of moral to Israel and its army”.

Erdogan said Israel didn’t fulfill more than 100 UN resolutions. “Our position toward the nuclear weapon is clear. Why they condemn Iran for this issue, but don’t do that against Israel. Israel acknowledged that it has nuclear weapon. They used weapons of mass destruction, phosphorus bombs in Gaza. Why they bombed Gaza yesterday? What happened? There is no rocket attack now. Why you are doing that? They say “we are powerful forces in the region” because they have non-adequate opportunities, forces and they use that. They don’t fulfill UN decisions”.
