Ten killed, 82 injured as two buses crash in Bolivia

At least 10 people died and 82 were injured when two buses collided head-on in southeastern Bolivia, Bolivian radio Erbol reported Saturday, APA reports citing “Ria Novosti”.

"The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at an international highway linking Bolivia and Argentina. Ten people died, 82 were injured and hospitalized, seven of them in critical condition," the radio station quoted traffic police spokesman Col. Ramiro Vega as saying.

Vega said the tragedy occurred when one of the buses entered the oncoming lane as the driver was passing another vehicle.

This is the sixth large-scale accident involving buses in Bolivia since the year start. Seventy-five people have died in the accidents.

According to the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), some 1,000 people die in road accidents in Bolivia annually, with 15,000 receiving injuries.
