Kyrgyzstan’s interim government asks international community to freeze accounts of Bakiyev’s supporters
The interim government of Kyrgyzstan appealed to the international community to help find and freeze the accounts of ex-president Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s supporters.
Deputy Prime Minister of the interim government Temir Sariyev said $200 million was transferred through six commercial banks during the mass unrest in the country on April 7-8. He considers that Bakiyev’s supporters may use the funds to tense the situation in the country.
Earlier, the interim government of Kyrgyzstan said $200 million had been transferred to a bank in the US. The issue was discussed at the meeting of Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake and Temir Sariyev.
