Fire extinguished in secondary school in Azerbaijan’s capital
APA’s correspondent reports from the site that about 20 fire engines participated in extinguishing the fire.
Department chief of State Firefighting Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Akbar Novruzov said the fire covered 500 sq m area of the school. The ceiling of the school was seriously damaged. No one was injured.
The causes of the fire are being investigated.
Director of the school Irada Bayramova told journalists that the third floor of the school was completely burnt down. According to director, the classes will be restored from tomorrow, schoolchildren will continue studying in other schools of the district.
Spokesperson for Baku Education Office Zamina Aligizi told APA that there were 1000 schoolchildren at school when the fire broke out.
“That school is one of the oldest schools of Baku, it was built in the 25-30s of the past century. The fire reportedly started on the third floor and spread to the roof. As the main columns of schools are wooden the school is burning quickly. The fire has already covered the second floor. Fortunately, there were no children on the third floor. About 1000 schoolchildren in the lower floors were immediately evacuated,” she said.
Zamina Aligizi said the school had not been overhauled recently. 2400 children are studying at school.
“According to the recent reports, the whole building has burnt down. The documents of the school also burnt,” he said.
