Greece to stay in eurozone

The Greece debt crisis does not present a threat to the euro zone, ECB President Jean-Claude Trichet insisted today. The handling of the Greece crisis so far demonstrated that the EU institutions and the EU fiscal policy framework functioned. "First of all the Greek government had taken very tough, very cautious decisions that were called (for) by us, by the Commission, by their peers. That is a peer demonstration again that the European framework functions."
Trichet defended the euro zone’s fiscal record. Trichet said the ECB wants peers to exert pressure on themselves over indebtedness.
Asked if it was plausible for any country to leave the eurozone Trichet said "I consider it an absurd hypothesis, an absurd assumption."
