Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Religious Associations issues statement on incident between believers and police

The statement says that the march from Fuzuli square towards the Martyrs’ Alley on the occasion of death of Prophet Muhammad is an attempt planned by a group of persons to cause confrontation in the public and violate the atmosphere of tolerance.
“The violation of public order by a small group under the pretext of religion is illegal. Therefore, the illegal action was prevented by the law-enforcement bodies. The choice of faith is respected in Azerbaijan, but the promotion of religious extremism, ideas of religious intolerance is inadmissible. The attempts of a group of persons to call people to radicalism using religion for political purposes, damage the traditions of tolerance of our people and abuse of freedom of religion are inadmissible.”
